NEW DELHI: A major security scare unfolded at the Delhi Assembly on Monday afternoon after a speeding car rammed through multiple barricades and forcefully entered the high-security premises, triggering panic among officials and security personnel.

According to police sources, the incident occurred around 2 PM, when a white car bearing a Uttar Pradesh registration number was seen driving rashly near the Assembly complex. The vehicle smashed through security barricades and breached Gate No. 2, raising serious concerns over the effectiveness of existing security arrangements.

Driver Reaches Speaker’s Office, Leaves Bouquet

In a bizarre turn of events, the driver allegedly proceeded towards the office of Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, where he placed a flower bouquet near the porch before quickly retreating from the premises.

“The driver managed to escape despite attempts by officials to intercept the vehicle,” a Delhi Secretariat official confirmed.

Police teams have launched a search operation to trace the vehicle and identify the driver.

CCTV Footage Under Scanner

Preliminary investigations suggest that the car managed to bypass multiple layers of security, exposing potential loopholes in the Assembly’s security system.

  • Authorities are examining CCTV footage
  • Reconstructing the sequence of events
  • Checking whether it was intentional or reckless driving

Security has now been tightened across the Assembly complex, and additional personnel have been deployed.

Previous Bomb Threat Raises Concerns

The incident comes just days after the Assembly received a bomb threat via email during the Budget Session.

On March 25, authorities were alerted to a message claiming that 16 RDX-based IEDs had been planted inside the premises. A thorough security check was conducted, but nothing suspicious was found.

Conclusion

While no injuries have been reported, the breach has raised serious questions about the security preparedness at the Delhi Assembly. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the incident.
