Maruti Escudo & Tata Sierra

Must Read

With an aim to challenge the dominance of the Hyundai Creta in the midsize SUV segment, Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors are ready to launch the Escudo (as known so far) and all-new Sierra, respectively. The Maruti Escudo will go on sale with its official price announcement on September 3, while the Tata Sierra will hit showrooms around October or November, 2025. Let’s take a look at the key details of these two upcoming Hyundai Creta rival SUVs.

Maruti Escudo

The all-new Maruti midsize SUV will have a new official name at the time of launch, but for now it’s widely referred to as the Maruti Escudo. It will be the new flagship SUV in Maruti’s Arena portfolio, based on the Grand Vitara. However, it will offer several segment-first features including Level-2 ADAS (a first for any Maruti), Dolby Atmos tech, a powered tailgate and 4WD system. The Escudo will also be the first Maruti Suzuki car to feature an underbody CNG kit.

The Maruti Escudo is likely to share its powertrains with the Grand Vitara. This means, it will come with the 103bhp, 1.5L petrol, 116bhp, 1.5L Atkinson cycle petrol hybrid and CNG engine options. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be available.

Tata Sierra

The Tata Sierra is one of the highly-anticipated new SUV launches of the year. Initially, the model will be offered with the electric powertrain, expected to be borrowed from the Harrier EV. The petrol and diesel versions will follow early next year. According to reports, the Sierra petrol will initially be powered by an all-new 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, helping Tata achieve a competitive starting price. A turbocharged 1.5L petrol engine is expected to join the lineup at a later stage.

Tata will equip the Sierra with several premium features including a triple screen setup, a built-in dashcam, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, wireless phone charger, multi-colour ambient lighting, Level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, hill hold/descent control, ESP and more.
