New Delhi: A year after a 17-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and then sexually assaulted by a man in northwest Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar, police have arrested the accused in the case. Police received a complaint on May 28, 2024, from the girl’s mother reporting that her daughter had been missing since the previous day. A case was registered, and 15 days later, the girl was found at New Delhi Railway Station.The girl told police that a man named Niwas Singh, who worked with her sister at a mobile shop, allegedly lured, kidnapped and sexually assaulted her. After the incident, Niwas fled and was declared a proclaimed offender. Deputy commissioner of police (Crime) Pankaj Singh formed a team under inspector Sandeep Tushir to trace the man. He was arrested in Laxmi Nagar. According to police, Niwas, originally from Jharkhand, had moved to Delhi and started working at a mobile shop in Swaroop Nagar where he met the girl, who lived in the same neighbourhood. He had lured her and taken her to Patna, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted. “After some days, when he returned to Delhi, the survivor was traced by cops, but Niwas managed to evade arrest as he was constantly changing locations,” police said. Police finally tracked him down to Laxmi Nagar, where he was working at a mobile shop, and arrested him.
