Mahindra & Mahindra recently concluded its annual Independence Day show with the unveiling of four concept SUVs – Vision X, Vision T, Vision S and Vision SXT. The event also witnessed debut of the all-new monocoque NU_IQ platform, underpinning all these SUV concepts. This new architecture, capable of supporting multiple powertrains (ICE, electric and hybrid), is aimed to achieve 5-star crash safety rating.
The Mahindra Vision X and Vision S concepts are expected to preview the next-generation XUV 3XO subcompact SUV and a Creta rival SUV, respectively. The carmaker has confirmed that the NU_IQ platform-based SUVs will start arriving by 2027. Let’s take a closer look at what we can expect from the new-gen Mahindra XUV 3XO and Mahindra’s new Creta rival midsize SUV.
New-Gen Mahindra XUV 3XO (Vision X)
The second-generation XUV 3XO is expected to borrow several design elements from the Vision X. The concept showcased a closed-off grille with Mahindra’s Twin Peak logo, slim lighting elements at the front bumper, a coupe-like windshield and a sculpted bonnet. Other design highlights include squared wheel arches, aero-optimized wheel arches, black cladding running from front to rear, flush-fitting door handles and pronounced creased on the doors.
Since the Vision X is based on the NU_IQ platform, the new-gen Mahindra XUV 3XO is likely to be offered with ICE (internal combustion engine), electric and hybrid powertrains. According to media reports, the hybrid and electric versions of the SUV are under development and might arrive by 2026.

New Mahindra Midsize SUV (Vision S)
The upcoming Mahindra midsize SUV will be based on the Vision S concept, which carries rugged styling and high ground clearance. It’s expected to have a design more in line with a mini-Scorpio, highlighted by inverted L-shaped headlamps, a hefty black bumper, pixel-shaped fog lamps and Mahindra’s signature logo flanked by a triplet of vertically stacked LEDs on either side.
While the Mahindra Vision S featured roof-mounted lights, a jerry can and a roof ladder on the kerb side, these elements might not make it to the production model. The concept also sports pronounced wheel arches, 19-inch tyres, flush-fitting door handles, thick black cladding all around the body, rear bumper with integrated reflectors, inverted L-shaped taillamps and a tailgate mounted spare wheel.
The production version of Mahindra’s upcoming Creta rival SUV is expected to be offered with ICE powertrains initially, followed by its electric and hybrid versions at a later stage.
