The Indian automotive industry witnessed a marginal YoY (year-on-year) growth of 5.5% in September 2025, thanks to the festive season and positive effects of GST reforms. A total of 3,78,457 units were dispatched to dealers in September 2025, compared to 3,58,879 units in the same month last year.

With sales of 22,573 units, the Tata Nexon emerged as the best-selling car in India for September 2025. The model recorded an impressive 97% YoY growth against 11,470 units sold in the same month last year. This also marks the best-ever monthly sales for Tata’s popular subcompact SUV.
The Maruti Dzire was the second top-selling car in September 2025, clocking total sales of 20,038 units against 10,853 units in September 2024.
The Hyundai Creta retained the third position (as it did in August) registering sales of 18,861 units against 15,902 units a year ago, marking a 19% YoY growth.
The Mahindra Scorpio secured the fourth spot with sales of 18,372 units as opposed to 14,438 units in the same month previous year, reflecting a 27% YoY rise.
The Tata Punch raked fifth with total sales of 15,891 units versus 13,711 units in September 2024, recording a 16% increase.
Maruti Suzuki’s Swift hatchback, WagonR, Fronx, Baleno and Ertiga grabbed the sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth positions, respectively. The carmaker managed to sell 15,547 units of the Swift and 15,388 units of the WagonR hatchbacks.
The Maruti Fronx clocked total sales of 13,767 units, slightly lower than 13,874 units sold in September 2024, marking a marginal YoY 1% decline. The Baleno followed with 13,173 units, while the Ertiga MPV registered 12,115 units, down 31% YoY.
