First launched in 2009, Toyota Fortuner has changed the premium SUV segment in India. This 7-seater SUV has consistently been admired for its off-road capabilities, powerful engine, road presence and rugged design, premium interior and brand value. These attributes have helped it maintain its position as the top-selling premium three-row SUV in India for several years. Since its debut, the Fortuner has received multiple minor updates and a full generation upgrade. It’s second-gen model was introduced in 2016, and now its ready for yet another major upgrade.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) hasn’t officially announced its launch timeline yet, but if media reports are to be believed the new-gen Toyota Fortuner might debut in 2026. The SUV’s third-gen model is likely to derive design cues and features from the all-new Toyota Hilux. Recently, exterior and interior design sketches of the next-gen Toyota Hilux Travo leaked on the web. In fact, the new pickup has been spotted testing in Southeast Asian markets.

New Toyota Fortuner – What to Expect?
Significantly Improved Styling
As mentioned above, the design and styling of the new-gen Fortuner could be heavily inspired by the new Hilux. The leaked sketches of the pickup truck reveal its completely revised front fascia featuring a massive grille, new LED headlamps with eyebrow-shaped LED DRLs and a plaque connecting them, revised bumper and an integrated radar module for ADAS. The new Hilux will also come with the newly-designed alloy wheels and new LED taillights.
Upgraded Cabin
The leaked interior images show an entirely new dashboard and centre console. The major highlights are a large, free standing infotainment system (measuring around 12-14-inch) and a digital driver’s display (nearly 10-inch in size). The pickup might also get HUD (head-up display), ventilated seats and several premium features. All these features are expected to be carried over to the India-spec new Toyota Fortuner.
Same Engines:
In India, the new Toyota Fortuner is expected to retain the existing engine setup including a 201bhp, 2.8L turbo diesel and Neo Drive 48V mild hybrid. The existing transmission options are also likley to be continue in new-gen model.
