New Renault Duster Hybrid – Launching Before Creta & Seltos Hybrids?

Must Read

The third-generation Renault Duster will be the next big product launch from the French automaker in India. Production of the SUV is expected to begin next month (i.e. September, 2025) at Renault-Nissan’s Chennai plant. For the all-new Duster, Renault will adopt the multi powertrain strategy, and introduce it with petrol (both naturally aspirated and turbocharged) engines, a hybrid powertrain and CNG options. The new Renault Duster will initially go on sale with petrol engines in the first half of 2026.

Launch Timeline Explained:

The much-awaited Renault Duster hybrid is likely to hit Indian shores within 6 to 12 months after arrival of the petrol variants. It will be positioned against the upcoming next-gen Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. As per media reports, the second-gen Kia Seltos might have its world premiere in November 2025, followed by an India launch around April 2026.

The new-gen Hyundai Creta will arrive sometime in 2027 with comprehensive design and feature updates. Interestingly, the new-gen Creta and Seltos will go hybrid with their generational upgrades. If reports are accurate, the all-new Kia Seltos hybrid will debut before the new Renault Duster Hybrid, while the new Creta hybrid will reach showrooms after these two models.

Petrol & Hybrid Options:

The 2026 Renault Duster could be initially offered with a 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.3L turbo petrol engine options. The globally sold Duster hybrid (as Dacia Duster) is offered with a 94hbp, 1.6L petrol engine, paired with dual motors and a 1.2kWh battery. This configuration delivers a maximum power of 140bhp. The India-spec Duster might also receive the same hybrid powertrain.

CNG & Electric Under Consideration

Renault is also considering CNG and electric Duster for the Indian market. If introduced, the CNG variant could use the third-party solutions as we have seen in the Kiger and Triber. The electric iteration, however, is still under evaluation and might take a longer time to hit Indian roads.
