Kia has announced its global future product roadmap with a strong focus on electric and hybrid vehicles. India remains one of the key markets for the South Korean automaker, and the company aims to enter hybrid segment within the next couple of years. Alongside this, Kia India will introduce major generational upgrades to its two popular SUVs – Seltos and Sonet.
New-Gen Kia Seltos
According to media reports, the second-generation Kia Seltos will make its global debut in November, 2025, followed by its India launch in the first half of 2026. An official statement on its launch timeline and details is still awaited. Spy images reveal that the all-new Seltos will receive significant changes inside and out, while continuing with the existing engine and gearbox options.
The biggest upgrade will come in the form of the hybrid powertrain. The midsize SUV is likely to be introduced with a hybridized 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine in 2027. With this strong hybrid powertrain, the new Kia Seltos will take on the Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder and the upcoming new-gen Hyundai Creta hybrid. The hybrid Seltos is likely to offer higher fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
New-Gen Kia Sonet
First launched in 2020, the Kia Sonet has completed five successful years in India. The subcompact SUV has consistently been admired for its modern design, feature-rich interior, multiple engine options and Kia’s premium brand value. With its arch rivals including Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon and Hyundai Venue are ready for their next generational upgrades, the Sonet is also set for a major update.
As of now, there is on official information on its India launch timeline. However, the new-gen Kia Sonet is expected to arrive in 2027. The subcompact SUV could be offered with significantly improved styling, upmarket interior and more features. Engine-gearbox combinations are likely to remain unchanged.
