The newly-launched Maruti Suzuki Victoris has shaken up the midsize SUV segment with its competitive pricing and strong value proposition. Adding another feather to its hat, the all-new Victoris has achieved a full 5-star safety rating in Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) crash testing, making it the safest vehicle in its segment. Whereas the segment leader – the Hyundai Creta (current-generation, pre-facelift) secured a 3-star Global NCAP rating in 2022.

Maruti Victoris Vs Hyundai Creta – Adult Occupant Protection

Maruti Victoris Vs Hyundai Creta Safety Rating

The all-new Victoris scored an impressive 33.72 points out of maximum 34 in Adult Occupant Protection. The Creta, on the other hand, secured 8 points out of 17.

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Victoris offered ‘Good’ protection for the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs, left tibia and feet, while chest and right tibia protection was rated ‘Adequate’. The results showed ‘Good’ protection for the co-driver’s head, neck, chest, pelvis, thighs and tibias.

In the same test, the Hyundai Creta provided ‘Adequate’ protection for the driver’s head and it was ‘Good’ for the co-passenger. Neck protection for both the driver and co-driver dummies was rated as ‘Good’, while the driver’s chest protection was rated ‘Marginal’ and the co-driver’s ‘Good’. The Creta offered ‘Marginal’ protection for both driver and front passenger’s knees, with potential encounter with ‘dangerous structures’ behind the dashboard.

In the side pole impact test and side movable deformable barrier test, the Maruti Victoris offered ‘Good’ protection all critical body regions of the driver, except for chest protection in latter, which was rated ‘Adequate’.

The Victoris’ frontal bodyshell integrity was rated ‘Stable’, whereas the Creta’s body shell was rated as ‘Unstable’ and not capable of withstanding further loadings. In fact, the Creta’s footrest was also rated unstable.

The Victoris impressed with full scores in dynamic assessment (24/24 points) and CRS installation (12/12 points) scores along with 5 out of a maximum 13 points in vehicle assessment. Global NCAP observed that the CRS (child restraint system) provided complete frontal and side protection to both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies during crash test. Both dummies were rearwards facing during frontal and side crash tests.

The Hyundai Creta scored 28.29 out of 49 points, translating into a 3-star child occupant protection. It’s important to note that the tested base variant of the Creta lacked Isofix child seat anchorages and the child seats was secured with seat belts. Global NCAP reported that the seat belt failed to prevent excessive forward head movement for the 3-year-old front facing dummy with chest protection rated as ‘Weak’. However, the 1.5-year-old rearward facing dummy recorded ‘Good’ head and chest protection.

The all-new Victoris comes equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, hill hold assist, 3-point seatbelts with reminders for all occupants, rear parking sensors, Isofix child seat anchor points, overspeed alerts and traction control as standard across all variants. Higher trims offer Level 2 ADAS, an electronic parking brake with auto hold and a 360-degree camera.

The tested base variant of the Hyundai Creta (pre-facelift, current-generation) featured dual airbags and ABS with EBD. Electronic stability control, child seat anchorages, vehicle stability management and rear disc brakes are offered from the SX Executive trims onwards, while side and curtain airbags are available only on the top-end SX (O) variant.
