Maruti Escudo Spied With ‘E’ Badge – Grand Vitara’s Electric Twin?

Must Read

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to unveil a brand-new SUV on September 3, 2025, and early buzz suggests it could be a major launch. Although the company hasn’t yet confirmed the model’s name, specifications, or features, reports indicate that it may be introduced as the Maruti Escudo. This upcoming vehicle is expected to be a midsize hybrid SUV, likely built on the Grand Vitara platform.

Interestingly, recent spy shots have revealed a unique ‘E’ badge beside the nameplate, sparking speculation that the vehicle might be an electric variant of the Grand Vitara. It’s also possible that Maruti plans to launch the electric version under the Escudo branding. The official confirmation is still awaited.

Meanwhile, let’s take a look at the key details we know so far about the Maurti e Vitara and Maruti’s Grand Vitara-based new midsize SUV.

Maruti e Vitara

The Maruti e-Vitara, the brand’s first all-electric SUV, made its debut in a near-production form at the Bharat Mobility Show earlier this year. Developed on a dedicated skateboard platform jointly created with Toyota, the e-Vitara will be offered with two battery choices – 49kWh and 61kWh – both supplied by BYD.

These battery packs will be coupled with front-mounted electric motors, delivering 143bhp and 173bhp of power, depending on the variant. Both setups will offer 192.5Nm of torque. Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the variant equipped with the 61kWh battery will have an MIDC-certified driving range exceeding 500 kilometers on a single charge.

New Maruti Midsize SUV

Maruti is also preparing to launch a new midsize SUV, which might be named the Maruti Escudo. It will be sold exclusively through the Arena dealership network and positioned to rival popular models like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Though the full specifications haven’t been disclosed, the SUV is expected to share its engine lineup with the Grand Vitara. This includes a 1.5L petrol engine producing 103bhp, a strong-hybrid setup delivering 116bhp, and a CNG option with 88bhp. Both manual and automatic transmission options are likely to be available.

In Maruti Suzuki’s SUV lineup, the Escudo will be placed above the Brezza and below the Grand Vitara. Its pricing is expected to fall in between these two models, offering buyers a balanced choice of features and affordability.
