September 2025 turned out to be a decent month for the Indian automotive industry. The festive waves, GST price cuts and attractive discount schemes helped increase footfalls, which is clearly reflected in the monthly sales figures. The 7-seater family car segment witnessed major shifts in buyer preference, with the Mahindra Scorpio (Scorpio N + Scorpio Classic) emerging as the top-selling model with total sales of 18,372, surpassing the Maruti Ertiga.

The Scorpio recorded a 27% YoY (year-on-year) growth against 14,438 units in September 2024. Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga slipped to second position with 12,115 units compared to 17,441 units in the same month previous year, registering a 31% decline.
The Toyota Innova (Innova Crysta + Innova Hycross) retained the third position and clocked total sales of 9,783 units against 8,052 units, reflecting a 21% YoY growth.
Sales of the Mahindra XUV700 7-seater SUV increased to 9,746 units in September 2025 compared to 4,956 units in August 2025 and 9,646 units in September 2024.
With 7,338 units sold, the Kia Carens (Carens + Carens Clavis) stood at the fifth position, up from 6,217 units in the same month last year.
The Toyota Fortuner and Mahindra Bolero were nearly neck and neck with a marginal sales difference of just 36 units. The Japanese automaker managed to sell 2,783 units of the Fortuner, while Mahindra retailed 2,747 units of the Bolero. However, the Bolero saw a significant sales drop compared to August 2025.
The Renault Triber and Maruti XL6 were the eighth and ninth top-selling 7-seater cars in September with sales of 2,587 units and 2,170 units. The Tata Safari rounded off the list at the tenth position with sales of 2,000 units in September 2025.
