Upcoming Maruti Hybrid Cars/SUVs
India’s largest passenger carmaker, Maruti Suzuki has planned a range of new hybrid vehicles arriving by 2026. Starting with the Maruti Victoris, the midsize SUV will come with the Grand Vitara’s 116bhp, 1.5L strong hybrid powertrain. It’s claimed to offer a mileage of 28.65kmpl, making it the most fuel-efficient car in India.
The Victoris will be followed by the Fronx hybrid, new-gen Baleno hybrid and a hybrid mini MPV. These three models will feature Maruti Suzuki’s in-house developed hybrid powertrain, using the 1.2L Z-Series petrol engine paired with the brand’s own strong hybrid system.
Mahindra XUV 3XO Hybrid
Codenamed S226, the Mahindra XUV 3XO hybrid is likely to hit roads in 2026. It will be the brand’s first hybrid offering, featuring a 1.2L turbo petrol engine. The SUV is expected to feature a ‘Hybrid’ badge on the exterior along with some hybrid-specific software updates for the instrument cluster.
Honda Elevate Hybrid
Honda Cars India missed the opportunity to introduced a hybrid powertrain for the Elevate at the launch. Considering growing market demand, the carmaker has now decided to launch the Honda Elevate hybrid to challenge the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder in 2026. For the midsize SUV, Honda might use the City e:HEV’s Atkinson Cycle 1.5L petrol engine.
Renault & Nissan Hybrid SUVs
The Renault Duster is set to make a comeback in India early next year. The SUV will come with an all-new styling, premium interior and multiple powertrains including hybrid. However, the Renault Duster hybrid will be introduced nearly 6 months after arrival of its regular petrol version. In global markets, the Duster (sold as the Dacia Duster) is available with a 140bhp, 1.6L petrol-hybrid powertrain.
Nissan India has confirmed two new SUVs for the Indian market, which essentially be the re-badged versions of the new Duster and Boreal 7-seater. Nissan’s Duster version will feature a completely different design language, and is expected to offer more features than its donor model. However, the engines remain the same.
