India’s two major homegrown automakers, Mahindra & Mahindra & Tata Motors have multiple exciting models in the pipeline, scheduled to arrive over the next 2-3 months. While the updated Mahindra Thar will hit showrooms in September, the updated Tata Punch and Punch EV will go on sale in October, 2025. The launch of the petrol-powered Harrier and Safari SUVs is scheduled for November alongside the highly-anticipated Tata Sierra. Here’s a brief on these upcoming Tata and Mahindra SUVs.

Tata Punch/Punch EV Facelifts
The updated Tata Punch and Punch EV will come with subtle design changes and feature upgrades, while retaining the existing engine setup. The ICE-powered Punch is likely to borrow serveral design elements and features from its electric counterpart. It could be equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster, a new two-spoke steering wheel, a touch-based HVAC control panel and a larger 10.25-inch central touchscreen infotainment system.
The 2025 Tata Punch facelift will continue to use the 1.2L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, generating power worth 86bhp and 113Nm of torque. CNG variants will also remain on offer. As per media reports, the updated Punch EV might source the 45kWh battery pack from the Nexon that offers an ARAI-claimed range of 489km.
Tata Sierra EV

The Tata Sierra nameplate will be reintroduced with a modern design, advanced tech and an all-electric powertrain. The SUV’s electric version is expected to share the 65kWh and 75kWh battery packs from the Harrier EV. Its driving range is likely to be over 500km. The ICE-powered Sierra will arrive in the first half of 2026.
Tata Harrier/Safari Petrol
The Tata Harrier and Safari will soon be introduced with an all-new 1.5L direct injection turbocharged petrol engine. This motor is tuned to produce a maximum power of 170PS and 280Nm of torque. The all-new petrol engine complies with the BS6 Phase II emission norms and is compatible with E20 ethanol-blended petrol. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer.
Mahindra Thar Facelift
Mahindra’s highly popular Thar lifestyle off-road SUV is set to receive its first major midlife update in September, 2025. Most of its design changes will be inspired by the Thar Roxx including a new front grille with double-stacked slats, redesigned headlamps and revised bumper. Other updates will include new alloys, updated rear bumper and new taillamps. The interior of the 2025 Mahindra Thar facelift will witness significant feature upgrades such as a larger infotainment, new steering, wireless phone charger, a 360-degree camera, ADAS and more. Mechanically, the 3-door Thar will remain unchanged.
