Electric Vehicles (EVs) are gradually gaining momentum in the Indian market, and considering the increasing demand OEMs have planned several new models for the coming years. While most EVs currently available in India are positioned on the expensive side, MG and Tata have managed to provide some affordable solutions such as the Comet EV, Windsor EV, Tiago EV and Punch EV. However, when it comes to the compact SUV segment, the options are still limited. That won’t be the case in 2026 as at least 4 new affordable compact electric SUVs are set to hit Indian roads.

- Mahindra XUV 3XO EV will be the most affordable electric offering from the home-grown automaker in India, slated to arrive in 2026. The compact SUV is likely to feature a smaller size battery pack (expected around 35kWh) and an electric motor. It might feature a few EV-specific changes inside and out.
- Kia has already started testing the Syros EV ahead of its launch in early 2026. The model is expected to be offered with the 42kWh and 49kWh NMC battery pack options, borrowed from the global-spec Hyundai Inster EV. Spy images reveal that it will feature a sealed-off grille and a front-mounted charging port.
- Vinfast has adopted a top-down product strategy for India. It begun its innings here with the flagship VF7 and VF6 electric SUVs, and will follow them up with the affordable VF3 compact electric SUV in 2026. Globally, the VF3 is available in two trims – Eco and Plus – and comes with an 18.64kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
- The Inster EV will be Hyundai’s answer to the Tata Punch EV. In global market, the compact electric SUV is available with 42kWh and 49kWh battery packs, and the same options are expected to be offered in India. The model has been packed with several premium features including ADAS, and a 360-degree camera.
