The Indian automotive industry is set to witness multiple new launches in the high-popular three-row SUV segment. These upcoming models will be offered with a variety of powertrain options including petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric. India’s homegrown automakers – Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra are gearing up to launch three new 7-seater SUVs – the Tata Safari petrol, Tata Safari EV and Mahindra XEV 7e. All three SUVs have been officially confirmed to launch by the end of FY2026 (i.e. March 2026).

Tata Safari Petrol
As per media reports, the Tata Safari petrol will be offered with an all-new, in-house developed 1.5L turbo petrol GDI (gasoline direct injection) engine. This 4-cylinder motor pushes out a maximum power of 170PS and 280Nm of torque. It might come with two gearbox options – a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCA automatic.
Tata Safari EV
The Tata Safari EV has been spotted testing multiple times, and the recent sighting hints its launch is just around the corner. The electric SUV is likely to feature a closed-off grille along with a new more EV-specific design element. Its interior might share a strong resemblance with the newly-launched Harrier EV. In fact, the Safari EV might borrow the 65kWh and 75kWh battery packs from the electric Harrier. It’s likely to offer a driving range of over 500km on a full charge.
Mahindra XEV 7e
The Mahindra XEV 7e will be the three-row version of the XEV 9e born-electric SUV, sharing platform, powertrains, design elements and features. It will feature the captain’s chairs for the second-row passenger, ensuring ample headroom and legroom. Similar to the XEV 9e, this new Mahindra 7-seater electric SUV will come with the 59kWh and 79kWh LFP battery options. However, its range figures for the might be slightly different from the XEV 9e, due to change in size and weight.
