Upcoming SUVs In India By 2028

• The upcoming Maruti Arena-exclusive midsize SUV (widely referred to as Maruti Escudo) is one of the much talked-about upcoming models. Scheduled to go on sale on September 3, 2025, it will be based on the Grand Vitara but offer several segment-first features on offer including the Level-2 ADAS, Dolby Atmos and more. Engine options will include petrol, hybrid and CNG.

• The next-generation Tata Sierra is one of the highly-anticipated upcoming Tata SUVs this year. Initially, the midsize SUV will be introduced with all-electric powertrain, followed by its ICE version early next year.

• The third-generation Renault Duster and Nissan’s version of the new Duster are among the much-awaited upcoming SUVs in India. While the new Duster will arrive in the first of half of 2026, Nissan’s rebadged version will hit showrooms a few months later.

• The next-generation Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are expected to arrive in 2027. Both SUVs will receive significant design changes and feature upgrades along with a hybrid powertrain.

• Mahindra’s Creta rival midsize SUV will be based on the recently unveiled Mahindra Vision S concept. Its production version will hit roads in 2027, and is likely to retain most of design elements from the concept.

• Honda Cars India has planned multiple new models for India including two hybrid SUVs – the Elevate and a new 7-seater. The upcoming Honda 7-seater SUV will mark debut of the brand’s all-new PF2 platform, and is expected to share hybrid powertrain with the City sedan.

• The new-generation Toyota Fortuner is expected to hit Indian shores sometime in 2026. The popular SUV is likely to witness significant feature upgrades and improved design along with a new platform. However, the engine setup might remain unchanged.

• By 2028, Skoda and Volkswagen are expected to enter hybrid SUV segment. Both automakers might introduce hybrid midsize SUVs and sedan based on the IMP platform, derived from the CMP (China Main Platform).
